Double page spread mood board
Similarities:
-
All of the different double page spreads have an image and text either next to or around them.
-
The title/name of the person its featuring is in bold text.
Differences:
-
all of the double page spreads have a different colour scheme.
-
The images are positioned differently
-
All of the double page spreads are about something different.
From this task I have learnt that on a double page spread usually there is an image which the writing around it is talking about. They also have the person in the image's name large and bold so that the person is attracted to it. I have also learnt that most images on magazine covers use direct address to engage with he reader.
From this task I have learnt that on most magazine covers the model uses direct address to grab the audiences attention. The cover on the left uses the model and the text to engage with the audience whereas, the cover on the right mainly uses the image to engage with the audience. Both of the magazine covers have similar/the same target audience of around the ages 16-24.
Megan Fox Bazaar magazine
-
The first magazine has focused on two main colours which is red and white.
-
The mast head is very big across the top of the magazine cover and its also going over the image of Megan Fox which catches the readers eye.
-
The target audience for this magazine is around 16-24 years old.
-
Megan Fox on the front cover is using direct address.
-
Informal text, its out of line.
-
The model Megan Fox attracts a target audience of those ages as she has featured in movies such as the Transformers which has a similar target audience.
Hailee Steinfield Fashion Magazine
-
Direct address, looking directly at the audience to achieve intimacy.
-
The masthead says 'fashion' appeals to people who like fashion.
-
The target audience is around the ages 16-24.
-
The colour scheme has some bold colours, however not too much to draw the attention away from the model.
-
The cover layout is very formal.
-
The model will appeal to people who already know her.
-
The trend issue could appeal to younger people.
The model on the front cover an double page spread is Rita Ora who is a popular British singer. This could mean that the target audience is mostly British girls around the ages 16-24. Her fan base in the music industry is mostly girls around the same ages which gives the impression that the magazine will have a similar target audience. On the cover it also says 'how to look like Gigi Hadid' which also suggests the target audience is young females as she is an American model. It also could be aimed at a slightly lower target audience as it says "the fairy princess hair of your dreams" this could be targeting a younger audience as fairy's are typically linked to a fantasy. She was also named international model of the year by the British Fashion Council which suggests she is very popular in Britain as well as Rita Ora.
The double page spread has an image of Rita in the middle and her name in bright red and bold across the top. This tells the audience that it is about her.
Eminem is the model on the front cover of the magazine. This could suggest that the target audience is boys of the ages 16-24. This is because Eminem is a very popular rapper and he uses explicit language which could mean that the audience of this magazine is a little older.
On the front cover it also says "SWAGGER.JACK, LIL WAYNE, KANYE WEST, JAY-Z &T.I." these are names of other quite popular rappers that could also drag in an audience of the same ages.
On the double page spread half of it is covered by an image of Eminem which tells the audience that the double page spread is about him and that the target audience would want to read it. There is no strap line which leaves us more to focus on the quote that is the first on the page of writing. it is also a bit separated from the rest of the text which makes it stand out more to the readers.
From this task i have learnt that all magazines use sell lines and anchorage text to attract their target audience. They also all use bold text and large images of the model using direct address to engage with the audience.

Digital magazines only really target the younger generation as they use more technology.

Disadvantages of digital and physical magazines for the institution:
-
A disadvantage of digital magazines for the institution is that they have less control over who buys their magazines

A disadvantage of physical magazines is that they cost much more to make as they have to print them. This means that the institution make less profit.

Cosmopolitan UK:
-
The digital magazines do not use a 'cover' to attract the reader.
-
Typically they use an image with anchorage text to draw in a reader.
-
all of the headings at the top of the page stay at the top as you scroll down which is good as it means people can go from genre to genre effortlessly.
-
Digital magazines make a lot of their profit from advertisements. As you can see at the top there is a pop up ad of '888 Casino' which is evidently a gambling site.
-
Also on the right of the screen there is another ad. This ad is advertising clothes which is also what the main article is about. This could make people think that these clothes are what Kim Kardashian wears as its on the same page as the article about her. This ad stays on the right hand side as you scroll down the page aswell so its always in the readers eye sight.
-
As the article is on Kim K, it could suggest the target audience is aimed towards the younger ages. They also use a image of 'Ariel' from 'The Little Mermaid' which is a cartoon which is predominantly watched by the younger ages also.
-
The digital magazine is much more practical as instead of having to flick through many pages on a print magazine to find the page/article you want, there is a search bar so you can instantly ind an article that appeals to you.
-
When you scroll down the page you see more ads and there is even an option to directly click on a link to buy something.
-
Along side each other are two coats which are very similar. One of them costs £260 and the other £50 with a - 43% this instantly makes the reader think that they should buy the cheaper one as of the amount of the sale and for he fact they are getting the same look as the other image for a fifth of the price.
Fashion:
-
Just like Cosmopolitan the headings at the top stay at the top as you scroll down for easy access to other genres.
-
This magazine also doesnt have a front cover.
-
It also has many adverts like the one of the right hand side which also stays on the screen at all times.
-
Can also always have the option to search for an article that suits you as the search bar is always at the top.
From this task i have learnt that digital magazines do not use a front cover, they just use an image and anchorage text to draw the reader in. They also contain many adverts to try and make people send money. Digital magazines can also be seen as a shopping website as you can click on a link and it will instantly take you to where ou can buy a product.
